a very good made dramatic movie... but i only can say: FUCK THIS FUCKING FALSE WORLD !!!
Compare to Abel Ferrara's "Napoli, Napoli, Napoli" (2009), the only other film I know of that touches on modern Italy's affliction.
Certainly a film that paints a gritty picture. At times it does seem to lumber awkwardly, but between the cinematography and the matter of fact violence it manages to create a distinctly Italian and modern version of the mafia.
this is not a movie about top mob family but about ppl who r at fringe ,5 stories and all characters move in some way ,some scenes stand out :-kid bulletproof shooting CUT to kid looking in mirror, two young guys going crazy after getting guns and their killing scene, shoot out in car in tailor story, shoot and long take after the old guy runs who is counting money ,amazing stuff, superb camerawork showing charcter POV
An incredible, neorealistic take on the mafia. Francis Ford Coppola, eat your heart out.
I think you all are being to hard on this film. It had harmony displayed through fragments... this is what life is really like. No one ever has all the pieces of the story, and this film left enough mystery to hold my interest all the way through. Not to mention that it was absolutely beautiful.
Worth watching if only for the history behind it, but didn't quite enjoy it as a movie. While a few characters stand out and allow you to become somewhat invested in them, most don't and you end up wondering why you just spend 2.5 hours watching a movie that just leaves you with nothing more than "meh..."
Extremely disappointing. Overlong, the individual stories are not interesting enough to warrant the runtime. The stories themselves weren't particularly new or interesting. Re: it's realism and brutality - it was dull. Trying to be gritty and real does not automatically warrant acclaim.
Haven't seen it yet, but this Undercurrent article I'm sure will help me understand it better if I ever do get to see it. http://www.fipresci.org/undercurrent/issue_0609/casella_gomorra.htm
...But that's the point, Ally: there is nothing charming or intelligent about Camorra: it's brutal, ruthless and idiotic. Enough with cinematic glamorization of organized crime...
This film was definitely disappointing. It had none of the charm or intelligence or tension that the Godfather had. If this is realistic, give me fantasy.
I love the realist touch and bitchslap to the glamor-gangster style but I feel a bit indifferent to this piece. Must rewatch again in the future.
Awesome movie. Almost feel like they bit off more than they could chew with the five storylines but they really are essential. the fact is that this is a dramatic documentary. it presents gangsterdom with no glamour and no sugar coating. a gorgeous movie. i just wish italian pop was better. the music over the end credits is great, but the music that the people listen to through out the movie... well, thy need to talk to someone.
film yg musti nontonnya di mood yg pas supaya mudeng ama ceritanya, tapi dijamin memuaskan lah nih film
It is a beautiful movie for its gritty realism. And this is not one of the idealized gangster flicks.
How many more gangster films do we have to see pay homage to De Palma's Scarface by repeating lines from it? Highly derivative, clumsily filmed, and head-scratchingly praised Which I guess makes it this year's La Haine.
