An enjoyable lighthearted little film. Loved the settings of this film, with its lively small suburb, its style portrayal of Japan late-1950's family life and the charming little childrens. I also loved the camera placement where the camera never moves but each shot is perfectly framed that highlights what the director wants the viewers to see. The "retro" colors of the film are nice too.
ISAMUUUUUUUU KAWAII DESU NE. Anyway, I really hope that was a caricature of what old Japanese women are like (> . > ) and not the real thing . . .
An artist like Ozu doesn't need to pretend he's smarter than you. He could make a simple, heartwarming film about ordinary people that's still fresh after 50 years.
I'm kind of up and down with this one, and at the moment I'm up. Fart jokes, sumo, Keiji Sada and the cutest kid in the world. What's not to love?
does that synopsis give away the whole movie? if so, someone should really change it.
This is well-mannered, heartwarming humor. Even the farts are adorable in this movie. I liked it a lot.
This film is not only about cuteness, you guys! What about the prejudgement and hipocrisy of the adult world?
all i can say is that it was really cute there were a few thin layers but, really, the cuteness is what shines through stronger than anything else.
Minor??? it cannot be! Purely because when little Isamu says 'love you' as he leaves the house, i was vomiting candyfloss for hours afterwards, trying to unscramble the rainbows of absolute cuteness from my brains. truly, Ozu is the best director of children.
Minor movie of the Japanese master, GOOD MORNING plays with antagonisms. Ancestral vs post-WWII Japan, rebellious kids who shout and defy their parents vs adults who don't know anymore how to use words to communicate. Ozu discreetly invites us to explore these themes by showing us, on the TV screen, sumo wrestlers preparing for fight. Recommended.
Nothing? No comments at all? Absolutely revolting, considering the man made some of the simplest yet most stunningly beautiful films of all time.
