I don't mean to be so hard on this movie, but, truth be told, it's a mess. From expositional title cards to its pretentious suit-and-tie, black-and-white, macho-man forced importance, the film flounders in "indication". It indicates importance rather than earning an organic catharsis and dramatic tension. There's no sense of pacing, form or direction at all. It's a formless script & directed without inspiration.
Too black and white for my taste, and I'm not talking about the gorgeous cinematography. Apart from that it's a neat and insightful political drama that feels perfect for its running time.
Who else finds this film to be well-made but mind-bogglingly boring?
Elegant und auf den Punkt genau inzeniert.
Together with [http://mubi.com/films/1990] (and someone else, obviously) the best movies on journalism.
Notr easy to follow but great trama
Un coñazo de película. Me quedé dormido en el cine.
This is actually the first film directed by George Clooney I got to see. I was sceptical about his directing skills. I was proven wrong. I think the media subject is better understood by people who have some communication or journalism knowledge. We can only conclude that McLuhan was right and the medium is the message. A must see for the mass media interested ones.
Brilliant film...this is why I want to go into journalism...too bad this is a world that no longer exists
So good. It's a small but perfect jab at McCarthy-ist policies and instincts. Every moment is perfectly realized and takes no more time than it needs. A masterpiece from Clooney.
Poignant movie in the political climate in which it was released. The Story of Edward R Murrow's life needed to be told. While the secret husband and wife subplot was lame and I wish the movie went deeper into Murrow's life, overall I loved it.
