this was a beautifully filmed documentary (not sure why anyone would want to remake it) but it was terribly boring. the idea was interesting/good but nothing happened. nothing interesting was talked about. I mean I'll try to watch it again in a few years but I just wasn't impressed besides the cinematography (which was beautiful).

A 95-minute catfight between an eccentric mother and daughter. Spare me.

This movie brought up a lot of questions in my mind about how women survive when faced with historical roles they personally do not espouse, how people cope with aging and changes in their life, how families cope with tragedy and mental illness (it's clear that these two were almost absolutely abandoned by theirs), the stigma of depression... As the saying goes, "There but for the grace of God..."

"The marble faun has been stealing books from the loft! That seals the deal, I'm pulverised by this latest thing!" Little Edie Beale is my hero.

Very intense. I kept thinking that this was some sort of genesis for reality TV, but it also makes Autumn Sonata look amaturish, so go figure.

Despite all the times I had heard about Grey Gardens, I wasn't aware that it was a documentary. Big Edie & Lil' Edie were quite the pair of characters, and their eccentric living environment and grocery list of regrets was very endearing and entertaining to watch. Big Edie made me both laugh and want to cover my eyes to keep from getting emotional, she was such a cute ol' firecracker. And lil' Edie? Well, she just is

Facinating documentary which reveals the eccentric world of the Beales OF Grey Gardens a real eccentric couple and relative of Jackie Onassis. The Maysle Brothers really give the film heart and by the end your totally won over by these two ladies

Highly recommended. The Maysles use to ask questions voice-over and let the Beales do the show. Edith and Edie Beale are not the most interesting people in the world but I can't deny they are...special to say the least. Also interesting how Edie Beale became, thanks to this documentary, one of the many idols of the gay community. I sure would have appreciated the Bouvier family's point of view about Edith and Edith.

a real life glass menagerie. but the characters/real persons, void of any reality or shall i say "normalcy", which is good, because. . . well, isn't ignorance bliss?

About 20 minutes into this documentary, I fell in love with Little Edie. I really wish I could have known her, because it seems like she would have been a real hoot. That and I love her wardrobe.

A bizarre. flat-out hilarious, and yet heartbreaking look into two unique women's lives. The ending was especially moving because the future looks so uncertain for these two.

I first saw it when it premiered art the New York Film Festiavl. I shall never forget the sight of Little Edie standing up in the box and getting the Standing O of all time. The Maysles struck gold when they found these two remarkable women (and Jerry too) and the reverberations of their work with them continue to this very day.

I saw this movie on Sundance a couple of years ago. Big and Little Edie Beale still stay with you. I love this documentary. I didn't see the follow-up to this doc yet.

What documentaries about individual people aspire to. The Maysles set the bar on this one - an overwhelmingly interesting bit of filmmaking.

A film about a lot of things and certainly 2 larger than life personalities, but what I will always remember and cherish about this film is ultimately the humanity in these women. We see it through their dislikes, arguments and insecurities, but most of all through the connection they have to each other, for better or worse.
