It's all about Bill Murray. There are some surprisingly emotional moments, like when Murray tries to save the old man's life.
"Groundhog Day" is a well elaborate comedy. I don't mean it as one of the most important comedies of all time, such as "Modern Times" brought to us by Charlie Chaplin, but it's still better than what the industry gives us today for many reasons: the well structure screenplay that ranges every possibility making us think on the daily routine we have and how to prevent it before we start going mad with it.
One of the best things the movie has going on it is Bill Murray on his golden age period, where he manages to create this annoying ego-centrical guy who can be so much fun to watch, and as the movie progresses we understand what's inside of his mind instead of what he appears to be. Without his like-ability this movie would be less interesting, although funny at times with the repetitive scenes going on. I liked it.
Despite not being science fiction, this is still one of the most well-made time-travel movies. The editing is really great as Phil goes through each subsequent iteration and the scenes plow forward, giving a different side of his character with each subsequent act. --PolarisDiB
Just rewatched this after many years. There's no comedies out there with a plot as deep as it.
A pesar que es una comedia romántica, Bill Murray y Harold Ramis le logran impregnar un humor negro muy bueno.
One of my absolute favourite movies, first saw it with my parents when I was a kid, this one's really stuck with me.
So perfect, so hilarious, and so moving that it almost flies by as the smoothest of entertainment, until upon revisits that you truly experience the depths it has to offer.
Basically tied for first place in my personal movie pantheon with Full Metal Jacket, this is the feel-good comedic flip side of the dead-serious grittiness of that other film.
The director said he had meant for him to relive the day for about 10,000 years but the studio said he should say it was less when it came out (I cannot remember why, some dumb reason). Surprisingly good movie, it has the appearance of just being another crappy comedic star-vehicle but it is much better than that.
A lot of reruns on TV and I still watch them which, I think, says a lot about how good this movie is.
I have quite possibly viewed this film more frequently than any other. The irony is not lost on me.
What in all likelihood should have turned out to be a sub-par Murray vehicle with a gimmick instead, was somehow crafted into a really poignant–and hilarious–story as if the same day replaying itself scenario is so natural to Harold Ramis that it didn't even require any special imagination to come up with, just good old-fashioned story-telling of the type a time traveler might employ... hmmmm....
Very funny. Its a rare romantic comedy, they don't make movies like this anymore, I guess. Simple, honest, smart, and very human. Wish they would look back and pick up the pieces they left and start making decent romance movie like this one.
