An adaptation of the popular manga by Junji Ito, Gyo centers around the “death stench”, a revolting smell first encountered in connection with creatures appearing to be bizarre and aggressive fish with scuttling, sharp metal legs. Okinawa is taken over by these dangerous and disturbingly bizarre walking fishes that are leaving the ocean and are heading to the cities. Amid this freakish event, a girl named Kaori loses contact with her boyfriend Tadashi who lives in Tokyo. She heads to the capital to try to locate him only to find out that the metropolis has been taken over by bigger and bigger killer fish and their foul stench. –Terracota Film Festival
It's really like a SyFy movie done in anime style. That's the best way to explain it. It doesn't make any sensen (and I'm not even talking about the premise) but it is good clean fun in a trashy way. Junji Ito is always a good read but the cinematic adaptations of his work are really lame.
