Stas is a young Korean-Uzbek, part of the third generation of Koreans deported from the far east of the Soviet Union. He and his friends Kasoy, Shin and Said hang out happily at the garage where Stas works in Tashkent. While trying heroin for the first time, they hear the news that Kasoy’s brother has been attacked by Uzbek gang members in their taxi. Seeking revenge for his brother, Kasoy gets killed by the gang leader Maha. Six years later, Stas has become a police detective. Said, a drug addict. And Shin is studying in Korea… Could Korea be Stas’s Hanaan? His final promised land? –Locarno Film Festival
