i loved John's velcro shoes! haha
A brilliant start to what has so far been a stellar career, there are those out there who claim this is P.T. Anderson's best film. While I don't agree, it's easy to see why they feel this way. Underappreciated Philip Baker Hall gets real meat to chew into, and John C. Reilly is spot on. As always, incredible attention to detail and the dual quirky humor and unsettling violence which are PTA signatures are present.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's scene is like four minutes long and it's one of the most memorable parts of the movie. Loved this, all of this. Paul Thomas Anderson's attention to comedic detail is amazing. John C. Reilly's velcro shoes? Even that alone was enough to make me crack up.
Immaculately written character study about cause and effect, propelled by strong performances and a distinct style. The astonishment here is the deliberateness and confidence that makes this a great movie and a remarkable first feature for Paul Thomas Anderson.
Very well made, if shallow, film with a incredible performance by Philip Baker Hall.
This is a fantastic movie. A great look at a truly unique sort of character, with great writing and some really, really fantastic performances, especially Phillip Baker Hall and Samuel L. Jackson. Just a really great, underrated film from a great director.
This is an absolutely fantastic film, I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as it was.
I can't take John C. Reilly, especially not after Brule's Rules. Or Philp Baker Hall either, for that matter, not after his appearance on Seinfeld as Bookman.
Two years in the life of Sydney, John and Clementine. We don't know where they come from and, at the end of the movie, we won't know what they'll become. In-between, we attend the creation of a family by Sydney allmighty. Life is not to lose or to win, a precept that Samuel -Jimmy-Jackson forgot. Great Philip Seymour Hoffman peformance in a minor role. Highly recommended.
A very good first film from an amazing director. Phillip Baker Hall is excellent as per usual. Gwyneth Paltrow should have kept doing films like this.
