UGHHHHHHHHH I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET OVER THE FACT THAT THIS GUY HAS SUCH A BIG FOLLOWING
Sauve. I want to live in this world, kinda. I just want to wear the clothes, go to the parties and live in the places not the emotional stuff. I don't don't like crushing on peeps.
colorful cinematography, plenty of homages, focused sensual scenes, long slow motion trailing shots with some excellent retrospective music. early on, the film succeeds in those scenes, but it gets overdone. immature writing, mistakenly self-deemed intellectual. useless, forced commentary scenes about love. overall, i think that the film lacks character and maturity. but Dolan clearly has potential
Its hyper-stylization can make it seems a bit pretentious, but it's visually fascinating. Great soundtrack (Bang Bang in italian and Fever Ray in same film... props to Dolan).
let's be serious now everyone was like "ooOoOOh dolan isn't a good director he's just a melancholic little boy who got lucky with his first movie and this is going to be a pretentious flop and you're all going to be disappointed" and that is total BULLSHIT I'M SORRY this was eight times more observant/farcical/hilarious/awkward than j'ai tue ma mere and i loved that film so that is really saying something
Os pseudo-cults adoram falar mal de Nolan. Pois o filme é bom. E no fundo eles sabem disso.
this is one of the greatest example of that aesthetics isn't the most important in a movie... quite boring. nice ost though.
Yes, I like Xavier Dolan, guilty as charged. What can I say? He's a little writing/directing/acting wunderkind and the camera loves him. "Heartbeats" is a very light, easy to watch film that successfully synthesizes influences such as Wong Kar-Wai and Gus Van Sant. Dolan was young when he made this, and is still young, so the film's notions of love are very naive and adolescent - but no less truthful as a result.
I enjoyed the highly stylized film. I liked the characters. Thought it was great study of infatuation.
Pretty people, pretty scenes, pretty music. End of content. Also: you could tell that in certain parts xavier was trying too hard to resemble kar wai wong. Not even reference, or tribute, just resemble. I sincerely hope that 'I Killed My Mother' will live up to its "standing ovation" but at this point I doubt it.
