watch apocalyse now NOW
The brilliant and uncanny making of "Apocalypse Now", told through intimate photography by the director's wife, interviews ten years post, and hidden recordings of a young, stressed, famous auteur on the edge of losing everything, including his mind. Arguably the greatest film ever assembled about the pressures and insecurities of movie-making.
possibly the best documentary about making a film i've ever seen. fat shirtless Coppola raving about how much of a disaster the movie will surely end up being is priceless.
From my own experience, the best film about the making-of of a film ever done. It doesn't matter if you're a fan or not of Apocalypse Now. After watching this you'll appreciate it even more. Everything, absolutely everything is brilliant in this 96 minutes of pure love to cinema.
After watching this, do I still worship "Apocalypse Now"? "... Probably more than ever."
I know this is may provoke some 'Wtf' comments but I actually prefer this documentary to the actual film Apocalypse Now. One of the best 'making-of' documentaries ever if not the best.
"My - my film is not a movie. My film is not a- a - about Vietnam. -- It is Vietnam. It's what it was really like. It was crazy. And the way we made it was very much like the way the Americans were in Vietnam. We were in the jungle. There were too many of us. We had access to too many-- a - too much money. Too much equipment. And little by little we went insane." -Francis Ford Coppola
One of the absolute best documentaries I've ever seen. You'll be mesmerized about just how much trouble & drama surrounded the making of Apocalypse Now, Coppola ran into every type of bad luck possible, much like Terry Gilliam did when he tried to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote a few yrs ago. BTW, watch the documentary about that one too, Lost in La Mancha (2002).
A must see for anyone with a filmmaking pulse. It rivals "Apocalypse Now". Also read "Notes" by Eleanor Coppola.
