There’s something good to be said about a film that becomes more and more enjoyable with repeat viewings. While other superhero flicks get played to death on TV and wear out their welcome, there is a genuinely likable quality to Hellboy’s world. It skillfully teeters between cartoon camp and darkness, fantasy and reality, drama and comedy. The characters are “believable” in their own strange way and Hellboy is the kind of demon you want to have beers with. Fun may not be high art but it doesn’t make me like this film any less.
