Hellgate

Reaching out to a stranger in need who turns out to be murderous ne’er-do-well lands an innocent veterinarian (Sterling Hayden) in jail for conspiring to kill. But the good doctor hasn’t been sent just anywhere — he’s been sentenced to the infamous Hellgate. The plot of this classic Western was inspired in part by the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the infamous physician, Samuel Mudd, who tended to John Wilkes Booth’s wounds.
