This mess of a film hardly does any justice to the outstanding directing talent of Alfred Hitchcock nor to his equally cinema-savvy wife Alma Reville. What could have been an interesting look behind the scenes of one of the most popular thrillers of all time soon turns into a ridiculously simplistic character study and culminates in an ending only suitable for dull romantic movies.
Filming the 'shower scene' scene executed some killer mental subjectivity...
I thought this film was goin' to be about the process of PSYCHO itself, the intrigue in its conception and conflict, maybe a psychological-thriller, not a comedy-drama family-plot-like version of an astonishing mson of a bitch who made one of the greatest films ever. I expected more his connection with Norman Bates himself... not a plain Ed Gein. I mean, James D'Arcy WAS FUCKING IDENTICAL! Why didn't they use that?!
Hopkins is such an overrated actor. Boring, without substance or sense of "beloving", no more than a mark, an establishment of "elegance". Dr. Lecter justifies his place in cinema, and only in "Silence". Who thought he could be a good Hitchcock??? Unbearable, plain, with no sense of character, just giving the "filmmaker's gaze" with a backing mock. Awful. The storyline is the same as "The Last Station".
boring and uninspiring, 5/10

call me hitch, hold the cock
It's difficult to tell who this movie was intended for: it's full of little kernels of movie trivia that will only appeal to film buffs and yet its portrayal of beloved filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock seems based entirely on conjecture. Since Hitchcock was a master at taking advantage of audience's voyeuristic tendencies, this movie concludes he must have been a pervert. Didn't this strike anyone involved with the production as a bit...shameful? I suppose not since this movie was on a tight shooting schedule and rushed into theaters, which shows in the blase and artificial look of the digital photography. Frankly, I'd rather watch Gus Van Sant's "Psycho" than give this biopic another spin.
"That, my dear, is why they call me the Master of Suspense."
"Call me Hitch, without cock." Three stars for that quote! #castrationanxiety
This was hilarious! I'll tell you a little secret: this is not an interesting film made with passion about Hitchcock, NO! it's a stupid comedy about an old baby boy making his mommy angry during 98 minutes.
Un acercamiento a un extracto del biopic del "Maestro del suspenso".
Still not too sure about Hopkins but James d'Arcy as Perkins and the exhibition of the shower scene at the movie theater made me love this imperfect but really pleasant film.
Quote of my life: "That (blonde) woman of mystery you're always after? She's a fantasy. She doesn't exist."
A decent but highly dramatized story marinaded in sentimental bullshit. The acting was just okay (Scarlett Johansson was great) but any sequence that had anything to do with The Famous Shower Scene was superb. I was entertained but I think HBO's The Girl is a more believable account.
wow, what an awesome acting by Hopkins - a very great job he has done. the movie itself was also very good... only a part during the time he nearly get lost by himself & came back with Psycho - but it was a nice, lovely & clearly... a suspenseful part.
Good, not great. Hopkins overdoes it a bit, in my opinion. Helen Mirren is superb, as usual.
It looks as if Hopkins was loosing his cheeks.
"Oh, Hitch. I've waited thirty years to hear you say that."
"That, my dear, is why they call me the Master of Suspense."
the master surely deserves a much better tribute
Brilliant recognition of an iconic director. Hail Hitchcock !
All a little bit too nice. Rather disappointing.
A good little background into the great Hitchcock and his trials and tribulations during the making of Psycho. It does a good job of looking at the creative partnership and struggles between creative, aging life partners and does so with truth. 3 stars
Pleasant 'TV MOVIE' style fluff.
i thought it was incredibly entertaining and it explored the mind of hitchcock while making psycho instead of just focusing on how psycho was made. everyone (well, roughly everyone) knows how it was made, why make a movie about that when you could explore a great directors mind? this being said, the screenplay wasn't great and it had its cringe worthy moments but i can appreciate a film about hitchcock any day.
Not the film of the century but interesting to see the relationships between Hitchcock and women, especially his wife...
