Ichio runs a rundown eatery on a Hokkaido highway. One day, a couple gets into a spat resulting in the guy hopping in his red sports car and driving off without her. The woman, Taeko returns to order a meal. When she tries to dash without paying, Ichio nabs her but lets her off with a warning. Ichio soon finds himself similarly stranded when his mad father swipes his car for a crazed gambling road trip with his buddies. Later that night while camping out, Taeko inadvertently burns down one of the restaurant’s sheds. This time around, Ichio puts Taeko to work. Soon, in spite of themselves, a relationship is born. —Avistaz
Born in 1974 in Hokkaido, Japan. He graduated from Osaka University of Arts’Visual Concept Planning Department. His thesis film “Kichiku” was awarded second place at the 20th PIA Film Festival and it received high acclaim. The film was officially invited to be screened in more than 10 other international film festivals such as the Panorama section of the 48th Berlin International Film Festival. It also won the Grand Prize at the 28th Taormina International Film Festival in Italy.
His PFF (PIA Film Festival) scholarship film, “Hole in the Sky” was officially invited to the Young Forum section of the 51st Berlin International Film Festival, and also it was awarded the RIPRESCI Prize in the 30th Rotterdam International Film Festival.
