Impossível parar de assistir, quase 3 horas e foi pouco
One of the best sport docs that i've ever seen. Quite emotional.
Excellent documentary..
Not just a portrait of the two main players but also how they deal with their environment.
Quite perfect. Easily the best documentary I've watched since Paradise Lost back in 08.
Basketball is a beautiful game
This is a story as much or more about the mothers as it is the young hoop prodigies. Gates' mother, Emma, really became the star of the documentary in my mind, the way she struggled to get certified as a nurse, which I think helped William grow beyond basketball, as she made sure he got an education. It is one of my favorite Criterion films.
A great documentary and in need of a follow up.
Life's a constant struggle and this documentary shows it very well. As well as being emotionally engaging, it is without doubt a very important documentary showing how wrong the american school system can be regarding scholarships. Recommended!
this Documentary shows in Heartbreaking detail that sometimes wanting something badly just isn't enough. Secondly the film is a meaningful commentary on the breakdown of school policies when it comes to treatment of "athletes".
The most comprehensive and intimate documentary that I have seen. And I was still surprised when I realized afterwards that it was 3 hours long. They managed to fit 5 years of life into a 3 hour package that felt like 90 minutes.
Just rewatched this and... I dunno. Should I add it to my favorites? Is it flawless? Intentionally or not, the film has so much to say. Often devastating.
Amazing documentary for both Basketball and non-" alike. The film is literally a large slice of "real" life.
easily the best movie ever made
Steve James is my favorite documentary director and this coming of age film set in Chicago is one of the best out there. Also check out Stevie if you like this film.
I'm not even a big basketball fan and I loved this. It's inspiring yet very grounded in reality at the same time. A lot can change in 14 years (and a lot has) but this movie still touches whoever I show it to. A bit long at 171 minutes, but not a minute is wasted in my opinion.
One of the most beautiful stories that you will ever come across, and it's real life. A journey that will touch your heart and your soul, heartbreaking and uplifting. Definitely needs a follow up now that reality tv has blown up. It was robbed of a very deserving oscar!
