I went into this expecting an unpretentious, silly romp - one of those comedies that knows it's dumb and cliched and delivers consistent laughs (e.g. "Sex Drive") - but as much as I dig Corddry and Cusack, this is an unforgivably, savagely, unremittingly shitty movie. It makes knuckle-dragging, lowbrow, by-the-numbers bromedies seem complex and sophisticated, and didn't elicit so much as a chuckle. ★★, generously.
Swear to god, the only good part of the movie is the "Hey, what's an email?" bit.
This is a funny, forgettable movie. I'm not going to make any pop culture references to it, but there were definitely parts of the movie where I was laughing out loud. They did a good job making Lou a likeable asshole. Some of the relationships (read: Cusak & his future wife) were entirely unbelievable. I recognize the importance of Lou's illegitimate child (I have already forgotten his name), but despised anyway.
