Alejandro Fernández Almendras was born in Chile. After studying communication and journalism, he worked as a film critic, photographer and journalist. He then switched to filmmaking, directing a number of shorts La ofrenda (2003), Desde lesjos (2006) and the award-winning Along Came the Rain (2007). His debut feature Huacho (2009) won the NHK Award at Sundance, and was screened in competition at ADFF. Seated by the Fire (2011) is his second feature. —Abu Dhabi Film Festival
