In regard to the previous comment - melodrama is merely a genre, not a measurement of worth, and Hula Girls excels at what it's trying to do. It's essentially the same story as October Sky (easily the underrated Joe Johnston's best movie), with hula dancing standing in for rocketry. It's fun and moving in the way the genre demands, and the fine score from ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro is a terrific bonus. Loved it!
