Formidable film enveloping a documentary visual extravagance, not to mention the hypnotic sequence from the roofs of the city which synthesizes the film. Definitely in my TOP 10 of the best movies of all the times.
A camera restlessly prowls, runs, rises on tiptoes, swims, cowers, flies...A fantasia not really concerning politics, or communism, or repression, but on the possibilities of cinema itself. And isn't that freedom of a sort...?
Makes me wonder how long after you first experience a film do you have to wait before you start calling it one of your all time favorites...
One of the most astonishing camera works in the history of cinema. This is just gorgeus!
Unreal use of camera and choreography. I don't consider this a propaganda film by any means. It stereotypes Americans and Cubans because it was made by a Soviet Russian, what would you expect?
Amazing direction and black and white cinematography, with the camera always moving.Even if you don't agree with the politics, the characters are all interesting.Still,no denying there was a need for change in Batista's Cuba.
A pesar de ser conceptualmente un panfleto, esta película tiene su puesto asegurado en la historia del cine gracias a sus elaboradísimos y extraordinarios planos secuencias. Formalmente es avasallante y sobrecogedora.
Who's holing the camera? Who's holding the camera?!? some cool ass cinematography/ camera handling going on in here
Don't even get me started on how fucking sick the DVD casing is. Criterion who?
"There are two paths for people when they are born: the path of slavery and the path of the star. You will choose the star."
Soy Cuba is one of the best shot films in history. It created some of the most unique and innovative ways of visually telling a story. It speaks the truth of Cuba, the perspective that Kalatozov had was incredible and interesting. A poetic film that should not be missed!
The allmovie guide synopsis currently posted above is reactionary nonsense; a review ought to at least make an effort to view a film on its own terms.
