Fine performances and well realized characters in a prison/juvenile detention drama which unfortunately starts to wear a little thin before it wraps up.
As soon as it was finished I knew I needed to watch it again. Wanted to watch it again. Seemingly unimpressive; but knowingly so much more.
This movie incites the viewer to ponder its messages long after the last credits. Director Florin Serban's mastery here lies in his ability to create an intense yet visually stimulating atmosphere; the tension projected when few forceful words are combined with meaningful body language is remarkable. George Pistereanu's powerful interpretation of the role of Silviu is as charming and convincing as it is haunting.
Engaging, affecting prison drama about a young inmate trying to save his brother from his fate. Superior to A PROPHET in nearly every way, the film creates a compelling and more believable situation.
I simply expected more from this film. A fresh vision maybe....but the so called "romanian realism" is kept. It has very good moments but in terms of depth you can't compare this with Puiu, Mungiu or Porumboiu's work.
