Prime example of why i LOVE Nicholas Ray. Everything becomes second when the two main characters fall in love. The scenes between them are so real and intense that you become utterly obsessed with what will happen to them.
He has only two other movies that are THIS good: “They live by night” and Johnny Guitar. Together they cover it all: In “They live by night” love is pure, poetic, and redemptive, in “In a lonely place”, love becomes jealousy, paranoia and self-destruction, and in “Johnny Guitar” love is gone, there is only frustration and resentment.
