After completing a prison sentence, Trojan returns to his trusted profession. Whilst preparing a new job, he attracts the attention of a corrupt police officer, thus entering a tangled web of mistrust, betrayal, surveillance and violence.

Together with Angela Schanelec and Christian Petzold, Thomas Arslan (Gold) is an active member of the Berlin School. His first genre film, In the Shadows, is a taut and twist-filled, Berlin-set crime thriller with echoes of Melville, centered on an ex-con whose past catches up with him.
