WINTER LIGHT is as “flawless” and “indestructible” as any film could aspire to be, and after watching INGMAR BERGMAN MAKES A MOVIE, it’s safe to say this was no accident.

Bergman and his talented team of collaborators took great pains to make WINTER LIGHT seem effortless, and this documentary follows them through every phase of the filmmaking process.

I especially liked the Ingrid Thulin screen tests (what a looker she was!), and the portion of the film devoted toward WINTER LIGHT’s immediate critical reception in Sweden. (Sjöman’s interview with Bergman on the subject of his relation to critics—apparently he learned to maintain an arm’s distance—is highly worthwhile.)
