Ishqiya

Crime, suspense, passion and deceit are the backdrops of romance in Ishqiya, a tale of two thieves, Khalujan and Babban, who are on the run from a crime boss when they find refuge with beautiful widow Krishna. Khalu’s tinted vision of old-fashioned love butts heads with Babban’s lustful eye, but Krishna may not be as straightforward as she seems.

Set in the rustic Indian countryside, Ishqiya features standout performances from leads Naseeruddin Shah (also appearing in Peepli Live), Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan, along with a laundry-list of villainous pursuers. Closer to Hollywood than Bollywood, Ishqiya is a light-hearted comedy mixed with fast-paced action, with lashings of desire, greed and revenge.—MIFF
