Easily one of the best horror movies in existence, yes, horror movie. Everyone tries to lump this into the thriller category, but only because it’s so good. I don’t know about everyone else, but this movie was made to scare the hell out of people. It has all the classic scenarios and cliches of the genre beforehand, but much like Chinatown it uses them to its advantage. The acting is great, you couldn’t ask for a better casting at the time. I think my favorite aspect of the filming is that the movie gets brighter the more you go on, unlike the Hitchcock classics beforehand. It really messes with your head when it looks happier, but more creepy things are happening. One of my favorite scenes is when Brody’s son is swimming and Jaws swims right past him. It’s in broad daylight, but it’s one of the most horrific scenes in my opinion.
