This drama based on a true story follows Joseph Mitchell (Stanley Tucci, who also directs), a writer for The New Yorker who befriends the title character (Ian Holm), a Greenwich Village eccentric who claims he’s penning an oral history of the world that’s 11 times longer than the Bible. Despite Gould’s increasingly erratic, belligerent behavior, the men stay in touch until Gould’s death, when a startling secret is revealed.
