Ignoring the shallowness of the Julie Powell part(on the second viewing, I think I understood why the Powell portion of the film doesn’t work - it’s as dry and self-serving and dull as her own, self-centered life), JULIE AND JULIA is so great. Meryl Streep + Stanley Tucci are perfect together (obvs) and just fill the screen with so much character and mood and fun. Honestly, here, Streep is a god, and Epheron is great at relaxing everything else about the movie and letting Streep dominate the frame as Child herself would. Will watch again, will still get teary-eyed and disappointed every time Amy Adams rears her head (no hate, Adams).
