If the video quality had the same quality of the soundtrack King Lear would be a great film, even with the occasional scenes that look like a teen's YouTube video done in a back yard.

Some of it is admittedly inscrutable, though I will surely gain more from a second viewing. Overall, though, I found it an enjoyable, comically surreal rumination on the idea of reconstructing art. Godard's tricks with the soundtrack and images are always inventive and playful, even if you're not quite sure what he's up to.

Sir! if you have not yet found it (you probably have) I bring good news - here it is http://www.worldscinema.com/2010/09/jean-luc-godard-king-lear-1987.html It's been months, but that whole site is an infinitely brilliant thing for any cinephile. Chances are it'll have what you're looking for.

Godard is not one of my favorite filmmakers because of what he did from 1959-1967, he is my favorite director because of all the films since.

This is the reason I like cinema as much as I do now. I first watched it when I was 13, didn't understand anything, yet I loved every second.

Awesome exportation of the conflict between Creation and Destruction. How I wish for this to be released on Criterion...
