I think Ebert sums up this movie the best, "Like Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny."
My favorite part of this fun romp through kung-fu movie cliches is the part where the guys in the car set themselves on fire with the liquor in the flask.
this is what would happen if House of 72 Tenants was made as a kung fu flick
Whole cigarette, one drag.
Pretty fun martial arts film
Stephen Chow is one of the only filmmakers I know of to creatively use CGI. I'm not opposed to computer effects but I do feel like its taken for granted and that's what keeps it from having any real weight. With Chow its essential to his aesthetic which is something like a unique combination between Kung Fu, Chuck Jones and Hollywood musicals. A must see for fans of the genre.
Oh, Kung fu Hustle... you always manage to put a smile on my face.
Kung Fu Hustle, where have you been all my life? Or at least these last 6 years or so... It took me far too long to finally see this, but I really dug it. Fun fun fun.
As Shaolin Soccer was a "Hong Kong" version of Shaun of the Dead, this is a Hong Kong version of Hot Fuzz. Think about the similarities- both films combine our favorite genres (HF- buddy cop, KFH- kung fu) with comedy. And yes, this was as enjoyable as Hot Fuzz.
funny and exciting, thank god kung fu movie genre is not dead. entertaining as hell, liked it more than some of bruce lees and jackie chans movies who i am also a huge fan.
I never knew it was possible to enjoy a movie this much.
Over the top, but so bloody hilarious and extremely enjoyable.
