The main character reminds me of reminder of Henry Miller in his personality and personal philosophy though I doubt Miller would have tried not to sleep with the girl.
// what happens when you house two self-centered intellectuals & 'an immoral little slut' (libertine sexuelle) in a french villa for the summer... add sexual tension - then subtract it - add it again, divide by two - spend remaining time trying to self-rationlize your obsession with ignoring a woman. Boils down to a movie about a man gaining self esteem by not using his penis.
Moving bravely, if languidly, towards a heroic dandyism, the unmoneyed but very well-put-together art-dealer Adrien joins his artist friend Daniel on the Riviera to enact a vision of moral purity based on doing absolutely nothing, only to be waylaid by the twinned temptations of beauty and commerce, as represented by the impossibly adorable Haydee and a crassly materialist American art collector.
Great movie. Reminded me of Julies et Jim. Rational seeing as both Rohmer and Truffaut were involved in the French New Wave movement.
Sometimes, some people think about it. But to show it in the movie can be only a unique person. Now I know his name
"Je me suis mis à aimer le cinéma quand je me suis aperçu qu’il pouvait exprimer des sentiments ambigus."
un estilo de pelicula que no atrae a cualquiera.. las peliculas de rohmer me cautivaron desde la primera vez, fue como amor a primera vista-- al contrario de Ingmar Bergman o Jean-Luc -- la coleccionista es una pelicula simplemente bella, la tension sexual que transmiten los personajes se siente tan real y sus dialogos son de la altura de eric rohmer
interesting film.. beautiful cinematography.. Rohmer's first color film is very subtle in its use of it.. skin tones, seafloor stones..
I must have the patience for it... When I watch this film (and it is one of my favorites to watch) it's a sort of vacation from the world. And it is one of the best to capture the mood of the 1960's I crave. The pace, the existential humor - it's a small bit of paradise to me. In my eyes, one of THE perfect films out there.
is this film pompous and misogynistic, or does it just center upon pompous, misogynistic characters? godspeed to those who have the patience to find out.
excellent use of a microchasm. Nothing to distract from the center of the film.
