Raúl Ruiz: Blind Man’s Bluff

Chilean filmmaker Raúl, or Raoul, Ruiz (1941-2011) was one of the most exciting and innovative filmmakers to emerge from 1960s World Cinema, providing more intellectual fun and artistic experimentation, shot for shot, than any filmmaker since Jean-Luc Godard. The film Ruiz was editing when he died - it's still in postproduction but is scheduled to be ready in February 2012. Ruiz recreates the 1950s Chile of his youth with a “happy melancholic” tone. It's based on 3 short stories: a French writer who wants to live in Antofagasta because he likes the city’s name; a retired bureaucrat who commits suicide; there’s also a ship’s captain plus a man contemplating his own corpse.
