A quiet and minimalist analysis concerning the attempting of acceptance/be loved of an ordinary woman exteriorized through sadomasochistic sexual acts. Nothing is answered directly- everything is suggested through the compact narrative plus long takes. Mónica del Carmen´s performance is total commitment to the role. A cohesive and striking ending in its simplicity.
Not for everyone,as the sex scenes could be hard to watch, some people may even stop watching after a few minutes.Or maybe not,as you will be curious about the main character. Ultimately,it is a story of coping with depression and loneliness.
I really like how Michael Rowe describes the solitude of the megalopolises by following 29 days of the life of Laura in her room. The second main theme, the couple death and sex, is a more classic theme perfectly used here. Two Mexican Ariel awards (Best Actress and Best First Work). Recommended.
Wrenching drama about a lonely young woman who fills the voids of her life with made up friends and anonymous sexual encounters. She finds a strange connection with one such man, and embarks on a journey of increasingly degrading sadomasochistic encounters that leads them both down a dangerous road with surprising results. Often hard to watch, but this psychological thriller is hard to turn away from.
