For me, Legend is the definition of "guilty pleasure". Rarely will one see a film with this much potential fail to such a degree by the end. Had it continued to develop into a demonic revision of The Beauty and the Beast it could have been a masterpiece, but instead it decides to end as just another recycled adventure fantasy. Even the film's visuals, its most redeeming trait, are dull by the climax.
The original cut, specifically, is a visual feast - one can gorge on the delicate, sparkling snows and majestic downpours for an hour and a half. Unfortunately, the editing is fragmented and unstable. The story is almost completely indecipherable at points. The director's cut from 2000 is quite a deal better in that regard. Awfully nice to watch, though.
The best part of this movie is Tim Curry's "O" face when Lily says [spoiler] she wants to kill the last unicorn.
The absolute definition of Interesting Failure. Desperately uneven, occasionally successful but all too often it falls flat. Let's just say that a sense of humor is not one of Scott's defining qualities. But there's no denying the beauty of the production and the brilliance of the makeup design, and Tim Curry's performance is a marvel.
I personaly like the tangerine dream version wich was the version i saw in theatres.
I'll give this film three stars just for how amazing it looks. There is nothing quite like it. In my opinion, even the Lord of the Rings movies don't stand up to this visually despite the fact it was made 25 years ago. Yeah, the story isn't that great. But Tim Curry is amazing as the Lord of Darkness, talk about badass acting plus makeup/costumes. Overall I think this film deserves more credit.
El argumento es una pendejada, pero visualmente, esta tan poca madre como Blade Runner.
Massive flaws but the directors cut is actually watchable and really ambitious. So many of the best ideas were discarded for budgetary reasons but some of what remains is truly magical. Terrible humor. Tim Curry is awesome as Darkness but everyone already knows that. The score by Goldsmith was rightly re-inserted and really enhances the film.
