Beautiful adaption of one of my favorite novels. My only problem being that they skipped over the entire chunk of the book involving Cosette (as a child) and Jean Valjean (their stay at the convent, etc…). I felt like this was kind of essential to the story and that the two character’s relationship wasn’t explored as much as it could have been.
But the novel’s so ridiculously long i realize they can’t put every part in, and that a direct translation would result in a film probably twice as long as this one. All in all this is a wonderful version of Hugo’s novel, and is quite the achievement by Raymond Bernard.
