This film blew me away at a festival screening (Natfilm 08, Copenhagen.) The look and feel of the picture is absolutely other-worldly and it handles its serious subject matter with great sensitivity and calmness, not to forget subtle humour. Contrasting of snowy cold Sweden with invigorating blood and true friendship despite everything is quite extraordinary. A real challenger of genres – and of the audience.
I have tickets for another preview screening next Thursday – can’t wait to see it again.
Don’t miss Alfredson’s “Four Shades of Brown” if you get the chance. It’s a bit long, but a hilarious and piercing portrait of relationships in a modern society. Its charm will most likely work best if you’re into Swedish though…
