When we go to war we tend to demonize our enemy to less than human terms. After all we are sent to fight and kill our enemy without remorse. On a more personal level there is not that much difference between the emotions and feelings of the individual soldier. They are sent by their country and torn away from there families and everything familiar to defend there homeland and honor.
“Letters from Iwo Jima” is a revealing and heartwrenching indictment of the inhumanity of wars nature. Before you go here we go again, I want to assure you that this film gets its point across brilliantly without a smidgen of manipulation or forced sentimentality. It is storytelling at its most effective level. When the credits roll you know you have seen something special in film achievement. This is the film that will have legs for generations to come.
