The Dardennes provide us with the closest contemporary analogue to the great Italian Neo-Realist films of the mid-Twentieth century, putting a certain slice of "ordinary life" on screen with grit and grace, the axe they have to grind about social inequities -- and their attendant sordid manifestations -- never overwhelming their careful (and caring) attention to character and environment. Godspeed Lorna's child.

Just imagine the thriller ot the film noir that could have been made with such a screenplay! But the Dardennes brothers wrote it with the idea to film a realist drama. When Lorna gives a bowl of water to her husband as if he was a dog, would the scene have been more poignant in a film noir? Anyway, I liked a lot my first intrusion into the Dardennes' artistic world. Highly recommended.

My second stab at the Dardenne world leaves me equally unsure. Although the situations and characters, and admittedly, the script are well crafted, it is somehow the package and presentation that seems to fail me. Perhaps I am more a seeker of Art, and this stark, obviously intentional simplicity fails on me. I simply still am not moved. I'll probably try again but it might be a while yet.

The treatment of characters is outstanding -especially Lorna's main character- as well as the way the story is being revealed -script-; with lapses and hints keeps you engaged all the way through...

I just didn't think it was that successful. Subjectively, I found the lead unnecessarily unsavory. But even subjective impressions aside, this didn't share the raw, gritty, real-time tracking feel of 'L'Enfant', which I admire more of the director's repertoire.

A pretty good Dardenne Bros. film. Pretty standard in terms of the stories they tell, although the lead Arta Dobroshi, who plays Lorna is excellent and Jérémie Renier is great as always. What is new in this film is the editing, there are interesting choices made in the information we are given and not given.

I watched this film yesterday and I was flooded with ambiguous feelings.. The idea and the story is really interesting, but it could be shown in a different and more realistical way.

I watched this film... It develops slowly but because of the originality of the screenplay you end up falling in love with the characters. Especially Lorna's. It is a screenplay that pays careful balance to that of the story and the character. It keeps few cliches and tells it's story very intelligently. Congrats to the 'Lorna's Silence Team!' A true European film.

J'ai vu ce film tout récemment lors du festival CINEMANIA (à Montréal), j'ai beaucoup apprécié ce film. Arta Dobroshi était là lors de la représentation et a répondu à plusieurs questions après la projection, c'était très intéressant...
