A fictionalized account of a jazz legend’s childhood growing up in 1907 New Orleans, this whimsical silent film showcases the efforts of impoverished six-year-old Louis Armstrong (Anthony Coleman) to acquire the pawnshop cornet he so badly desires. Featuring a rollicking score composed by Wynton Marsalis, this old-style melodrama also follows the exploits of a young prostitute (Shanti Lowry) and a crooked judge (Jackie Earle Haley).
