Wertmuller’s penchant for balancing politics and love meets its culminating point in Love and Anarchy. Giannini’s masterpiece of a character frustrated, tired of being nothing and turned crazy; Polito & Melato with their raw, furious and carnal performances; the supporting roles who despite their massive weight manage to strut across the screen with weightless ease; the production design and photography; and last but surely not least, Rota and the throaty voice that sings “Canzone Arrabbiata”, all help make this a perfect blunt weapon of a film that deserves a spot high in the pantheon of cinema.
