A musical for people who don't like musicals!

It's not perfect, but it's a fun, relevant story. The characters are well written and for the most part, well-developed. The songs are sweet, but at times I thought they sounded too similar. This may change with future viewings (I did love Je n'aime que toi from the first time, though). I really enjoyed it., it was really incredible, but as I said, not perfect. But it works just fine for me.

Most likely to be my favourite French film for a very long time. I first saw this one back in 2009 and after multiple re-watches, it still maintains its magic. With a fabulous cast, captivating soundtrack and mesmerizing plot, Les Chansons D'amour is a great film for existing Francophiles and those new to its world of cinema! Favourite songs include 'La Bastille', 'Au Park', 'Si Tard' and 'J'Ai Cru Entendre'.

To those francophiles I'd recommend all Jacques Demy films first, then they'll see the difference between a French filmmaker who made excellent musicals and a filmmaker who likes musicals and wanted to make one. I don't think this film is a reference. If so, it would be very reductive. Just like the reference to "Amélie" when it comes to ask foreign people what their favourite french film is. And though I'm parisian bred and born and loved all the actors of les Chansons d'Amour, I got bored very quickly. No sparkles, no magic, too much parisian acting. Let's say that french people aren't talented at musicals, and rock n' roll bands for instance...let's leave it to the Americans

I liked the songs, ESPECIALLY the imagery of the lyrics. The plot was messy, but I liked that too. Can't say I absolutely loved it overall, though ): But this is what I expected from les amours imaginaires (and didn't get).

Les Chansons d'Amour is a musical whose songs are sung by young people while experiencing their feelings for each other. Thus what we see in the scene are natural numbers that verges on a dialogue. Numbers by the way are extremely well executed by the actors. Their characters fall in love and fall out for one another, with the confusion, mistakes and this leads. www.cinemadebuteco.com

some catchy songs, and I have a soft spot for louis garrel. If anyway is going to be caught in a love triangle (or two) it's louis garrel. It looks good, and no, these people cannot sing, but then again, it's not about that. It's an anti love song, love song. The whole thing. Touche.

This movie is amazing. The songs, the cinematography, the actors all get an A+. The songs are very simple, and yet so beautiful. Louis Garrel & Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet: je t'aime.

A wonderfully off kilter, tragicomic musical about life, love and death that somehow, and quite miraculously, never seems forced. With its elegant cinematography accompanied by perfectly simple songs, unique story and characters with depth this film shows that musicals can be quite a bit more than fluff. A very fresh and great looking film that reminded me a lot of the Lubitsch touch, and the energy in Godard's Une Femme est une Femme.

How can ANYONE like this awful, awful movie? Not even the more-than-godly beauty of Louis Garrel was able to save such garbage.

Utterly adore this film. A teriffic tribute to Jacques Demy (in a musical style simpler than Legrand's) and a marvelous study of grief, regret, extended families and smokin' hot teenage boys. The climactic make-out session between Louis Garrel and Gregoire LePrince-Ringuet is one of the most romantic and sexy scenes in all cinema. And at the end my new favorite line: "Love me less, but love me for a long time."
