For such an (intentionally) simple theme spelt out in the title, its awe-inspiring how abstract in mood this is and how, thankfully, it avoids gross simplification (women as gold diggers) in favour for a universal theme on greed. Set less in a Romanian town than its own reality, everything from the musical narration to the horse motif creates a neglected film both phantasmagoria in nature and profound.
My first film for the World Cup. If the other films in the tournament are this fascinating, perplexing and great, it was worth getting involved with this sort of thing again after the one two years ago. Now I just need to plan out when to watch the other films.
