Personally, i’ve got a mixed feelings about this one. And a double standard. For one, this is a groundbreaking horror, especially when it comes to Indonesian horror genre. The technical aspect is mesmerizing. All the gore looks pretty fuckin real. And the Mo Brothers builds the tension very carefully. But it falls in one of the most annoying aspect when it comes to film experience: CLICHE. yes, Mo Brothers didn’t try anything new in the story department. Should this a Hollywood production, i might despise it so badly. The characters description are pretty much just copy-paste the template for horror film. There’s the pervert one, the good girl, the heroic-wannabe guy. And hate to say, the plot is pure A to B. A dead, move to B. B dead, move to C.

And what’s with all the praise for Shareefa Danish ? For, me, the biggest credit should go to Imelda Therine. Yes, she’s bring the beautiful sexy naughty psycho femme fatale performance in her presence. Every time she’s on screen, my heart pumped rapidly. Danish ? Well, Does that robotic performance is intended to be a joke ? Because i’ve got so many laugh with that one.

So yeah, this one stands in the middle. For an Indonesian film, this is an above the par filmmaking. But i’d will expect more from Mo brother’s next film.

A group of twenty-somethings pick up a lost girl who needs a ride home. Enter the guy that wants to help because he thinks the girl’s cute. Enter the monster mother of the girl. Enter the girl’s family of freaks. Enter the possibilities that things may go sour for the protagonists. Enter lots and lots of blood. Rinse. Repeat.

This has been the way horror flicks are for decades. Macabre is just the 15237th repeat of an overused formula.
