Synopsis

A vision of an apocalyptic future set in the wastelands of Australia. Total social decay is just around the corner in this spectacular cheap budget gang orientated road movie. Where the cops do their best to lay down the law and the outlaw gangs try their hardest to defy the system. Leather clad Max Rockatansky husband, father and cop turns judge, juror and executioner after his best friend, wife and baby are killed. Here we see the final days of normality of a man who had everything to live for, and his slip into the abyss of madness. Mad Max is the antihero on the road to vengeance and oblivion. –IMDb

Director

Original

George Miller

Dr. George Miller, the original Aussie Renaissance man, has divided his life between two great passions: medicine and cinema. Consequently, his most enduring big-screen works as a writer/director/producer — arguably, the Mad Max series and Lorenzo’s Oil — combine these interests in subtle and not-so-subtle (but consistently electrifying) ways.

Born in 1945 in the bustling metropolis of Brisbane, Queensland, Northeastern Australia, Miller was christened George Miliotis by his Greek immigrant parents, the Balloyoulus, but he anglicized his surname as a young man. He grew up in the nearby bucolic town of Chinchilla, Queensland, and developed an enduring infatuation with cinema from an early age, but medicine (and more specifically, the physiology of the human body) entranced him with competing force. He and his twin brother, John, thus enrolled jointly at the New South Wales Medical School in the late ‘60s, and George interned at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney upon graduation… read more

a complete non-sense... there's not much of an apocalypse and there's not much of an australian landscape... there are plenty of bikes and action, though... they're just not very interesting... besides, the soundtrack was freaking pretentious (worthy of an Herzog picture) rated 2 out of 5 thanks to some nice direction effort of doing something with all the utter mess

That’s right!  October 5th sees George Miller’s post-apocalyptic classic Mad Max coming to Blu-ray.  This is one of my personal favorites, and one of few movies in which I can still stomach Mel Gibson

Mad Maxxx

By Sam Cooper on February 26, 2010

Mad Max is the quintessential dystopian road movie of all time. Car chases in Vanishing Point have nothing on this guy. A phenomenon in the ’80’s, Mad Max is also notable for launching Mel Gibson into…  read review

Director George Miller’s spirited low-budget Australian action movie has a number of rousing action scenes, but it just isn’t cohesive enough to be the cult classic it should have been. Exciting car…  read review

While I would contend that “The Road Warrior” is a superior film (despite being a sequel), this puts the “Mad” in Mad Max. Characters named like Fifi, Goose, Mudguts, Bubba and Nightrider populate…  read review
