Such a beautiful piece of art. I think Kurosawa’s whole career is one movie, and this is the ending of his long career, and God, this is so beautiful. The last scene when the old professor (read Kurosawa) is dreaming (and he’s a child in his dream), his friends ask him, “Are you ready?” (they’re playing hide and seek) and he says “Madadayo!” means not yet, and the camera zooms into the sky, left me and my sister in tears. I always adore Kurosawa’s art and he has given me such artistic joy with his perfect movies; Now with watching his last movie, once again he gave us his wonderful view of humanity… And with such an ending into open sky he left us in eternity. 5 stars out of 5? I would give it 10 out of 5, if it was possible.

And if you ask me now, has Kurosawa’s art lost its appeal, I would say Madadayo! Not yet! as long as humanity exist, he is here among us.
