Two hours of my life completely wasted waiting on something to happen in this film. The casting/acting was good, the script was absolutely awful. And although I love Ladytron, their music did not fit into this movie whatsoever. If it wasn't for Bernal's performance I might not have finished this film.
This took me a while to get into, but the second half of the film was pretty spot-on. As far as the whole Babel vs. Mammoth comparison, I can say that I enjoyed both pretty equally, though they do have different feels. Some parts of this (i.e. depictions of loneliness) were downright painful to watch. The soundtrack is also excellent. I'd give this a solid 3.5 stars if I could.
Sad film about adults' detachment from their children in order to support them and the effects of globalization on the world's families. Has a great cast, but a stiff script, and, just as ironically, comes armed with a really great soundtrack that doesn't fit the feel of the movie whatsoever. Still, MAMMOTH's complex themes and powerful images (especially those taken during Leo's Thailand adventure) kept me glued.
Terribly sensitive and awfully sad movie! As in "Crash", the plot tells us a series of stories dealing with immigration and our model of family nowadays. It's so ambitious, being really exhaustive, to the extent of exhausting. The feminin performances are superb. The script, however, is quite mild. The end is just incoherent with the rest of the film. The title is the most stupid I've ever seen. It makes you think and cry, basically. But stylishly done.
