Exactly how I felt about it! The wardrobe and the cinematography was beautiful but the story was lacking.
"this is really ridiculous" indeed... not bad, but i had expected much more - but the soundtrack was top..!
Why the hell do I love it so much? Is it because of Jason? Or the candy? Or the outfits? Or France itself? Oh mon Dieu!
i like it but it could've been better. definitely hated on too much. Kirsten Dunst is fantastic, and I like the soundtrack. but yeah, art direction, cinematography, costumes...nobody can disagree with those. can we get a new still though?
Great wardrobe, great photography but an misplaced OST and an ackward screenplay. Sofia's telling Marie Antoinette story and doesn't roll her head at the end?! That was a perfect climax right before 'THE END'.
Belíssimo retrato da mimada rainha. Trilha sonora moderna. Fotografia maravilhosa.
Marie Antoinette started off well with the beautiful colouring and wonderful costumes, but the plot quickly got less and less interesting as the film drew on and eventually led to a rather dull ending. I enjoyed the beginning and middle, only the end let it down in my opinion.
My most favorite from Sofia Coppola. I just wish the story towards the ending has more intensity since it’s the only climax in the whole film. But overall, it’s a pleasure to watch.
This movie was a real disappointment for me. Visually its perfect, but that's it - just a sugar-coating. There is no real story behind it, which is sad, because there really could have been one. If you ignore all the superficiality its actually a pretty boring film. Jason Schwartzman is adorable as usual though.

After its maligned release, I wasn't too interested in Marie Antoinette. That is, until I realised that Sofia Coppola directed it. As it turns out, Marie Antoinette is a great film about alienation in royal families. It's got a great soundtrack and wonderful supporting performances, but this is really Kirsten Dunst's movie. She never gets the credit she deserves, and she's truly marvelous here.
devaneios exagerados de uma adolescente que virou rainha. nos mãos (e na trilha) de Sofia, foi um prato delicioso.
The cast didn't have to look far for inspiration on how to live glamorously and fast. Watching the film is an orgy to the eyes and tastes, so much its become a sort of ritual of mine to watch it with champagne and macaroons. Reminds me of the desire of wanting to have that much money to burn and the feeling of being a teen, while everyone expects you to be an adult. Except, Marie Antoinette is politics....
An interesting portrayal of French history, taking a few liberties to target its message towards the most unlikely audience: modern-day teenage girls. Though I am not a teenage girl, I did appreciate the stark contrast between the film's happy-go-lucky foreground and the infinitely more serious background, which only truly coincide in the very last scene and suddenly force you to consider the morality of it all.
art design is amazing. the whole feel is like eating the most scrumptious cherry tart. the music is brilliant as well.
I've been avoiding this one for years. Suddenly wanted to see it and I enjoyed it very much.
From the moment on the pair of Converse All Star shoes is said to be intentionally displayed, Sofia Coppola looses every little credibility as a filmmaker and Marie Antoinette ceases to be an awful movie to be a deplorable one.
