Not even Proust, indeed.
That scene where Alex is running down the street , punching his "cement" guts while David Bowie is playing in the background is the most perfect scene in the history of film.
Jean-Yves Escoffier is now one of my favorite cinematographers; and I now need to watch everything Leos Carax
So studied an effort that it's equal in weight to some horrific parody of the entire New Wave catalog.
Wonderful, how Léos Carax personalized pacing of the moments. Unforgettable faces and expressions and an almost nonexistent story --- too contrived to get involved or reject.
THE best running scene ever in cinema, pour toujours. Maybe my favorite scene in any movie, ever.
Anyone who doesn't find Denis Lavant peculiarly sexy must not be human, at all. Every time Lavant does something spontaneous or quirky in this film, my heart beats faster.
A great discovery from Carax; I didn't care much for his other movies, more like good taste French Wave of the 80's. This movie was probably was not enjoyed in France back then. The directing is visually hypercreative, it is not realistic and away from daily life. I will need more than one watching to understand it. Jean-Pierre Jeunet was watching...
L'amour moderne. A stylish post-modern romantic sci-fi thriller (imagine Alphaville meets Diva) and Carax's best work. And of course the reason why I fell hopelessly in love with Juliette Binoche.
Extravagance Thy Name is Alexandre Dupont! Weird and unforgettable if only for the sequence where Denis Lavant dances to "Modern Love" and Mirelle Perrier evokes all silent era waifs as she emotes to Chaplin's theme from "Limelight."
