Worst film i've seen. A complete hell. If I could choose one film NOT to live in, this would be it. There are no humans in this film, it's almost freightening.
On a rewatch, I admire the film's complicated structure; as a director, Nolan is a great ideas man and cinematic architect. However. the same problem with his other films exists - empathy or emotion are virtually nonexistant. Nolan is a great designer of a film's 'blueprint', a fitting metaphor considering Inception but don't expect any sort of emotional connection to the film even if its despising the characters.
Didn't work for me after a re-watch. I feel that the story-telling was too forced on the "backwards" gimmick that somehow the director loses control over the film. I felt the same thing happened to The Prestige, although I find it much more engaging.
best unconventional story telling in action!
Somebody get this guy memory. Pronto.
Ever saw a movie backwards? This is your chance!
Superb psychological thriller, cleverly done.
Rated 'Memento' 4 out of 5 stars.
Sixth or seventh view. And now I don't know how this can be classified as anything close to action movie, something that happened when it was released. It's pure psychological cinematic mindfuckness. Not very beautiful in a photographic way, but Nolan was just starting to show the world that if he wants to film an idea, he can.
Great film. The way it would periodically show the past and how each of those scenes would lead up to a segment of the past it has already shown, as in showing you what lead up to that segment, was awesome. It would keep expanding and you find out more about the past while also realizing what is happening in the present. Very well made film.
Very original, complex and thrilling. It might seems confusing at first.. but as long as you keep up to the story and get the hang of it, it's satisfying! It's actually intelligently enough that you will never get totally lost. I can't believe its actually delivers backwards! MIND BLOWING!
Will be there in my top 5 thrillers of all time.Hail Christopher,if there's one director in Hollywood to take note of currently,it would be Chris Nolan!!
I consider Nolan one of the most overstimated director.
a narrative about structure or lack thereof. guy pearce is magnificent here. possibly nolan's finest moment too.
"Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts."
Liked it the first time, but the trickery doesn't hold up as well to repeat viewings. I now feel like whenever I watch a Nolan film I am being led into some sort of cheap trick.
A beautiful calling card from a man who has made his name on injecting noir flourishes onto unsuspecting audiences
A purely brilliant film, must see for everyone.
I love the way the form mirrors the content in this. Chris Nolan likes to play with the subjectivity inherent in film. The flash frame of Leonard in the mental ward suggests that we're just witnesses to the sick fantasy within his mind. Along with Se7en, I think this is one of the definitive 'neo-noirs.' The industrial settings, economic scale, along with the usual tropes, give this a throwback feel.
One of my all-time favorites.
There is always a special place in my heart for this film, the best Chris Nolan will offer and Guy Pearce gives his iconic role. Sloppy at parts, but still great.
how many times is the still going to change?! That said, I quite like the new one!
The last line in the film is PERFECT.
Making a movie about such a psychological disorder without doing any actual research into the disorder is pretty offensive.
