I hated this? Guy Pearce is a horrible actor. I couldn't get past the first 50 minutes...
There is too much to say about this film. Drop what your doing its worth it. Unbelievable and probably the inspiration for my most creative movie list. If you want a movie that will blow your mind (literally) this is it !
The backwards narrative keeps you just as confused Leonard is, and is done incredibly well. Great movie.
One of the best films of the past decade. A couple responses to some criticism: Calling the structure a "gimmick" is, whether you like the film or not, incorrect. A gimmick is something that's only purpose is to draw attention to itself. It has no artistic merit. While the structure Nolan employs in Memento is certainly attention grabbing, it also serves the all-important function of putting the viewer in the shoes of the protagonist. That's not a gimmick, that just excellent use of the medium to connect with the audience and elaborate on theme. Furthermore, to complain that the film wouldn't be as good in order is ridiculous. Of course it wouldn't be as good in order! It wasn't meant to be seen in order. The entire effect and impact of the film hinges on the fact that it isn't in order. That's like saying 2001 wouldn't be as good without the space scenes. Or roller coasters wouldn't be as fun if they didn't go up and down. Silly…
Acting and cinematography are nothing to write home about, but the story... I have yet to see it rivaled, as far as non-linear mindfucks go. Truly extraordinary screenplay.
i watched this chronologically (the DVD has a hidden feature to do so) and it really makes u see the storyline and characters being less mysterious
One of the best written films of all time. Guy Pearce's performance is incomparable to anyone else.
Leonard Shelby is one of the greatest narrators that I've run into in cinema. What makes Memento great is the confusion - even Leonard is confused, and that's something both him and the audience have in common. Great flick.
Part of the population that saw it more as a gimmick value then anything else. I don't seriously think it was horrendous by any means, but it definitely boils down to a very average film.
