This is a story of one of Mali’s musical sons, Afel Bocoum, who has a special connection with the Niger River. Afel believes his ancestors dwell within the river, which is Mali’s lifeline and backbone. But now it is dying, threatening all. Come with us on a poetic and musical journey to save it. –Sheffield Doc/Fest
Overall this film is, I reckon, sympathetic. It fortunately gives not only Afel Bocoum's views but also those of many people who have not moved away.
"No longer critically marginalized as of lesser importance than the fiction feature film, no longer automatically regarded as 'box-office poison
